Tooth Whitening

What is tooth whitening?

Many things we do on a daily basis can contribute to stained teeth: smoking cigarettes and drinking beverages like coffee, tea, soda, and red wine are just a few possible causes.

Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to whiten and brighten you natural tooth enamel to enhance your smile. Flawless Dental provides two options for tooth whitening: Zoom!® One-Hour Professional whitening and take-home custom bleaching trays.

Zoom!® One- Hour Professional treatment

Zoom!® is a safe, effective, and fast whitening treatment that can only be performed by a dental professional. The treatment takes around one hour. Your clinician will cover your lips and gums, exposing your teeth for optimal whitening.

The Zoom!® gel is applied and then cured with the its accompanying Zoom!® Light. The gel and light work together to gently penetrate the teeth, breaking up stains and discoloration. The treatment consists of 3 15-minute sessions.

Take- home custom bleaching trays

Preparation for the take-home custom bleaching trays usually requires 2 appointments.

During your first appointment, your dentist will use an intraoral scanner to conveniently scan the teeth to create a custom clear plastic tray.

During your second appointment, you will try on the trays to make sure they fit properly. If any adjustments are needed, the dentist will make them for you at this appointment.

The dentist will provide instructions for how to use the whitening gel together with your custom trays. The trays are worn with a special whitening gel twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a few weeks, depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. Please be aware that tooth sensitivity during treatment is normal, and will subside soon after treatment is complete.

Caring for newly whitened teeth

Tooth whitening is not permanent and may require touch ups every now and then. It also only works on natural tooth enamel – your dentist will be happy to evaluate whether you need to replace old fillings or crowns to match your newly whitened teeth.

Our dentists are experts with many years of experience with tooth whitening. We will help you choose the right method for your unique situation. As always, proper oral hygiene, good eating habits, and regular dental visits will help maintain the life of your whitened teeth.
