Porcelain Crowns (Caps)

What are porcelain inlays and onlays?

A crown (or cap) is a tooth-shaped covering that covers the entire tooth’s surface to restore it’s original shape and size or to improve its appearance. A crown can restore the structure of a large portion of the tooth. Porcelain is the most popular choice for crowns because it’s natural looking. Crowns are highly durable and will last for a long period of time, but as with most dental restorations they may eventually require repair or replacement. Rest assured that we use the finest materials to create porcelain crowns to offer superior fit, function, and aesthetics.

Reasons for needing crowns (caps)

  • To fix broken, fractured, or decayed teeth
  • For cosmetic enhancement
  • To repair fractured fillings
  • For large fillings

How long does the treatment take?

Porcelain crown procedures usually require two appointments.

During your first visit, your dentist will use an intraoral scanner to conveniently scan the teeth to create your custom crown. A temporary crown will be placed for added protection until your crown is fabricated by a dental laboratory. This generally takes about two weeks.

At your second appointment, the temporary crown will be removed and your tooth will be thoroughly cleaned. Then your new crown will be carefully cemented in place for a precise and comfortable fit.
