Implant Crowns and Bridges
What is an implant crown?
A implant crown is a tooth-shaped covering that is cemented or screwed onto an implant abutment. Porcelain is the most popular choice for implant crowns because it’s natural looking. An implant crown is highly durable and will last a long time, but as with most dental restorations it may eventually require repair or replacement.
What is an implant bridge?
How long does the treatment take?
Custom implant crowns and bridges usually require two appointments after the implants have already been placed.
During your first visit, your dentist will use an intraoral scanner to conveniently scan the surrounding teeth and gums to create your custom crown(s) and/or bridge(s). Your dentist may recommend a temporary appliance until the delivery of your crown(s) and/or bridge(s). Fabrication of the implant crown(s) and/or bridge(s) generally takes about two weeks.
At your second appointment, the temporary appliance will be removed (if you have one) and the surrounding teeth and gums will be thoroughly cleaned. Then your new crown(s) and/or bridge(s) will cemented or screwed into place for a precise and comfortable fit.
Aftercare
Your dentist will walk you through the instructions for care of your new appliance. As with natural teeth, proper oral hygiene, good eating habits, and regular dental visits will help maintain the life of your new implant crown(s) and/or bridge(s).
