Endodontics (Root Canal Therapy)
Often misunderstood, root canals are a conservative procedure. Most people mistakenly believe that a root canal can cause intense pain. In actuality, root canal therapy will relieve pain, remove infection, improve your health, save a damaged tooth, and rejuvenate your smile!
Your tooth has three layers: the solid outer cover of enamel, the inner level of dentin, and the soft core of nerve cells referred to as pulp. If your tooth sustains severe damage from injury or decay, the pulp is prone to infection. The tooth can die, and infection grows, causing pressure to build inside the tooth. A severe toothache usually follows. Dr. Dines, our endodontist, performs root canal therapy to save an internally infected tooth from extraction.
During the procedure, Dr. Dines will administer medication to ensure your complete comfort. He’ll remove the infection, sanitize the tooth, and fill it with a man-made material. Because your discomfort comes from the inflammation and pressure inside the tooth, you should feel much better after root canal therapy. Any mild soreness can be handled with over-the-counter pain medications. Save That Tooth!
